I don’t usually have to buy myself something to feel good, but if I can find an indulgent essential at almost 75 percent (or more) off, then I’m in. It’s a rainy day here in Fort Worth, Texas (thank God because it’s been a very hot and dry summer) and my plan was to stay indoors on the couch with remote in hand navigating through Netflix.
But my husband, who is on vacation today, had other plans and decided he needed new dress shirts for work. So off to the mall we go. It didn’t take much convincing but I wasn’t overly excited UNTIL I walked into Macy’s and discovered their drugstore-like section of makeup and accessories freely hanging from self-serve racks displaying affordable brands like The Creme and e.l.f. What??? Game Changer!
I’ve seen Macy’s making unremarkable changes recently in an attempt to stay afloat I assume, but now we’re talking…..and I’m listening. Never did I think I’d encounter the day where you could walk into a major department store and buy a $5 lipstick. No need to stand at the cosmetic counter waiting for the salesperson to finish her eloquent spiel about a $40 miracle pout puffer or worse, feeling guilty about declining the product only to have her lose out on a well-earned commission.
It’s not that I’m against high dollar cosmetics, but it is nice to have more reasonable options at a department store. Sort of like they used to in the olden days at Kress and Woolworth. Ah, what great memories I have of taking the bus to downtown San Antonio with my aunt and perusing the aisles of the ornate five and dimes (that actually set the trends for today’s modern retail), being allowed to buy a small treat from each store, then hopping back on the bus and proudly parading my new knick-knacks. All the while, getting friendly smiles and uplifting attention from other passengers. Times have certainly changed but the pursuit of happiness and feeling good has not.
So this Feel Good Friday, I bought myself something. Well, I bought myself a few things and some were as much as 90% off! I got a makeup brush set that was already marked down to $9.99 for just $0.97. Yes, I got the entire set for less than a dollar! There were other accessories like a silicone makeup sponge, an eyelash curler and a lip gloss set all for just $0.97 each so I bought them, too.
In the end, I was able to walk out of the store with more than $80 worth of makeup and accessories for just $8. Now tell me that such a bargain on comfort necessities won’t make you feel good!
Happy Friday, lovely ladies. Be inspired, be intentional and be LOVELY!
*Note – not everything pictured was purchased at Macy’s.
